EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE softball team has an ambitious week ahead with seven games in six days beginning with the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invitational.
"We just need to continue to play well," said SIUE Head Coach Sandy Montgomery.
SIUE opens the week 4-2 and has five games scheduled for Florida beginning Friday followed by two more in the state of Kentucky.
The full schedule at the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invitational includes Central Arkansas (Mar. 2), Seton Hall (Mar. 2), Villanova (Mar. 3), Loyola (Mar. 4) and LaSalle (Mar. 4). SIUE then travels back north to face Kentucky (Mar. 6) and Western Kentucky (Mar. 7).
SIUE's two losses came against No. 16 Ole Miss on the road earlier this week.
"We had a couple of little things that cost us in the end, but I was proud of how we played," said SIUE first baseman Zoe Schafer.
Schafer leads the team in RBIs with six while hitting .368. Freshman second baseman Bailley Concatto is tops on the team in hitting with a .538 batting average (7-13).
The SIUE pitching staff, led by a 2-1 record from Emily Ingles, holds a 1.79 earned run average.
Montgomery said all of the flaws she has seen over the first six games have been addressed during practice.
"It's not anything that needs to be changed," said Montgomery. "You have to perform and you have to make plays when you have the opportunity. You have to pay attention to details and just be able to handle adversity and play with poise."
