EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball blanks Parkland 8-0 in game one of the double-header behind a perfect game from Emily Ingles. The second game was called in the fourth inning due to inclement weather.

"We came out ready to play," Head Coach Sandy Montgomery said. "Ingles had an outstanding game one for us. She had great command and was lights out."

In game one, the Cougars jumped out on top in the first inning with a Tess Eby double to left, batting in Talisa Morton.

The Cougars would then score one run in each of the second and third innings.

The SIUE bats came alive in the fourth inning when Zoe Schafer drove in three runs after hitting her fifth home run of the fall season. Morton also drove in Bailley Concatto with a single to center.

"Zoe is a fantastic hitter, she has great bat speed and really understands hitting at a high level," Montgomery added.

Ingles had a lights out performance, striking out 11 batters and giving up zero hits or walks.

Game two saw SIUE jump out to an early 1-0 lead after Schafer hit a solo home run over the left field wall.

Both teams were scoreless in the second.

Parkland heated up in the third inning scoring three runs.

In the fourth inning, SIUE's Reagan Curtis and Janie Smith scored the two runs for the Cougars.

With rain picking up, the game was called after the fourth inning.

"We are a very young team, we have 13 freshmen and sophomores," Montgomery said. "We had a lot of them starting the second game and they got quality experience against a good team today."

The Cougars are back in action next Saturday when they will host Lakeland in a double header starting at 12 p.m.
