EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE returns home Friday to Cougar Field for a softball doubleheader against Southeast Missouri.
The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
SIUE enters the contests with a 32-8 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. SEMO holds a 17-19 overall and a 2-8 record in the OVC.
The Redhawks are coming off a 3-1 loss at SIU Carbondale.
"They are trying to get back on track as well," said SIUE Head Coach Sandy Montgomery. "I think they have some good hitting and speed. They are a team looking for wins in the conference. You can't look at anyone's record right now. You have to go out and take care of business from your perspective and win games."
SEMO's Rachel Anderson leads the team in several offensive categories, including batting average (.432), hits (48), home runs (4) and RBIs (24). Madeline Krumrey powers the pitching staff with a 10-6 record and holds a 2.40 ERA.
SIUE is batting .285 as a team. The Cougars' top two hitters in terms of batting average are redshirt freshman Zoe Schafer (.372) and senior Allison Smiley (.367). The duo also leads the team in RBIs with Smiley at 33 and Schafer at 26.
The Cougars hold a 1.80 earned run average with 342 strikeouts in 272 1/3 innings pitched. Haley Chambers-Book needs just three strikeouts for 200 this season.
"We're going to work on things we need to get better and get ready for SEMO tomorrow," said Montgomery.
