Jacksonville State Defeats SIUE 11-3
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jacksonville State took the rubber game of a three-game series Sunday with an 11-3 victory over SIUE softball at University Field.
SIUE's offense, which had 24 hits in a doubleheader Saturday against Jacksonville State, managed four against the Gamecocks Sunday.
"We didn't play well today," said SIUE Head Coach Sandy Montgomery.
Jacksonville State, 23-22 overall and 17-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play, took off for a 4-0 lead after two innings.
"We bounced back and pulled to within a run," said Montgomery. The Cougars scored three times in the fourth inning on RBIs by Rachel Coonrod and Whitney Davis. SIUE looked to close the gap further before Jacksonville State rallied for three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to close out the game.
The Gamecocks picked up eight of their 12 hits in the final two innings. Kristin Graham capped off the final rally with an RBI single. Krystal Ruth and Hayden Crawford both homered for Jacksonville State.
Tiffany Harbin earned the win for the Gamecocks and is now 14-6. Amand Lambrecht took the loss for the Cougars and is now 14-10.
"We played well yesterday. Today we just didn't have it," said Montgomery.
The Cougars, 18-23 overall and 10-10, are one of eight teams with 10 or more OVC wins and are aiming for one of the top six slots for entrance into the OVC Championships next month.
SIUE has nine games left on the OVC schedule with three-game series with Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, and Tennessee State. "We have to worry about one game at a time," Montgomery said.
