RICHMOND, KY. – The SIUE women's soccer team fell to Eastern Kentucky 2-1 Sunday in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
"The team carried out a game plan and played extremely well," Head Coach Derek Burton said. "It was one of those soccer games that just doesn't go your way on the day."
The Colonels (10-4-4) struck early with a goal from Jordan Foster in the fifth minute. Bailey Bounds assisted Foster with a short pass in from 25 yards out and Foster slotted home the shot.
Right before half, the Colonels scored their second goal of the day in the 44th minute. Katie Shaffer headed in a corner kick from Monica Rios.
"We had a good number of quality chances before and after they took the lead," Burton added. "Ultimately a momentary lapse is what did us in."
In the second half, SIUE pressured Eastern Kentucky with multiple attacks, but the Cougars couldn't put one away.
The Cougars outshot the Colonels 15-9.
"It's a tough day when your season ends," Burton said. "But I couldn't be any more proud of our performance and effort."
SIUE finishes the season with a 7-10-2 record
