MURRAY, KY. - SIUE women's soccer ended the regular season with a 2-1 loss at Murray State.

"Im proud of the team and the way they battled today against a strong Murray State team," Head Coach Derek Burton said. "We showed a ton of spirit and good execution of ideas."

The Racers improve to 13-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. SIUE drops to 6-9-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the OVC.

The Cougars struck early with an Ashlyn Walter goal in the sixth minute off of an Andrea Frerker assist.

"We had a very bright start of the game," Burton added. "As we move into postseason its absolutely imperative that we maintain consistency throughout the match."

The rest of the first half saw Murray State outshoot SIUE 9-4.

Juli Rossi recorded six saves in the first half for the Cougars. Jensen Schoch replaced Rossi in goal for SIUE in the 29th minute.

In the 67th minute, Murray's Rebecca Kubin slotted one away off the assist from Annamarie Arino.

All things were level until in the 89th minute Kubin scored her second goal of the game off of a header from Arino.

"Against a team that's very confident, you can't afford one moment of lacking awareness," Burton added. "Unfortunately we had two today."

The Cougars are now set to play in the OVC tournament with play beginning Oct. 27.
