EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE loses to Saint Louis by the score of 3-0.
The Billikens struck right before half with a goal from Megan Nixon in the 42nd minute. Juli Rossi recorded five saves in the first half.
"We had a couple of chances right in front in the first half," Head Coach Derek Burton said. "Maybe we score first against the run of play, or if we score right after they score then I think it gives us a little bit of a different feeling.
In the second half SLU scored twice in a span of five minutes. First with a Maddie Pokorny goal assisted by Alyssa Seitzere in the 50th minute, second by Lindsey Sands in the 54th minute.
"The name of the game is putting the ball in the back of the net and we didn't do that tonight," Burton added. "If we would have, we're talking about a different outcome."
The Billikens outshot the Cougars 17-7.
"(Saint Louis) had a great season last year and they're definitely poised to have a great season this year," Burton said. "It was a great challenge for us, obviously. As long as we continue to work at getting better from each game, we'll get better from this."
The Cougars look to get back on track when they travel to UIC on Sunday at 1 p.m.
