SIUE Rolls Over Missouri Valley

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville plays its exhibition contest with strength Wednesday, overpowering Missouri Valley 7-0.
         Playing three 30-minute periods rather than two 45-minute periods, the Cougars dominated the Vikings early by scoring three times in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Kiara Akpore scored the first goal of the game at 4:37 with an assist to Jenny Kates.
         It would be Kates who provided the most scoring for the day with three straight goals at 45:22, 53:40 and 57:27.
         SIUE Coach Derek Burton watched his team outshoot Missouri Valley 18-2 as the team aslo picked up goals from Jennifer Kratzer, Amy Million, and Chelsey Johnston. SIUE played all three of its goalkeepers. Kaci Backs was SIUE's starter in goal and had the team's only save.
         SIUE opens up the regular season Sunday at Indiana State. The Cougars take on the Sycamores in a 1 p.m. match in Terre Haute, Ind.
