Stair Tabbed as OVC Golfer of the Week

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE freshman golfer Ashton Stair (Milton, Wis.) has been named the female Golfer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference after helping the Cougars' women's golf team to its first NCAA Division I tournament title.

Stair fired a career-low 77 in the second round of the NIU Huskie Classic in DeKalb, Ill. Tuesday. Her combined score of 160 led her to a third-place finish of 74 golfers.

Her third-place finish helped SIUE to the tournament title, the first title overall title for the Cougars since the 2008 season. SIUE defeated a field of 12 teams, including 10 Division I programs.

Stair joins Billy Peel of Eastern Kentucky and Murray State's Patrick Newcomb, who were chosen as the OVC's co-male Golfers of the Week. The honor is the first OVC weekly award for the SIUE women's golf program.
