INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Alison Gorman and Madison Frerking each earned top-10 finishes and SIUE women's golf finished fourth at the Butler Fall Invitational completed Tuesday at Highland Golf and Country Club.
Gorman fired a career-best 69 and finished with a 148. She tied with Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry and was just three shots behind medalist Lauren Tibbets of Butler, who won a playoff hole for the title. Gorman's 69 is the second-lowest round in school history, and the lowest round since SIUE moved to Division I.
Frerking finished a shot behind Gorman with a 149 to tie for eighth place.
"To have two golfers in the top 10 is really good," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. "I'm really proud of them. Ali's round today was tremendous and she made a long putt for birdie on the last hole to shoot 69. It was very exciting."
Brittney Jostes, who was playing as an individual, jumped from 29th to 17th-place thanks to a final round 75. Molly Marcum, who shot a 159 overall, also rose Tuesday moving from 45th to 29th. Miranda Lidisky finished at 160 to tie for 35th. Individuals Heather McDaniel and Serena Hou each improved their positions Tuesday. McDaniel was 42nd with a 163. Hou carded a 165 overall and moved up to 45th. The final individual, Morgan Clark moved up to 61st with a 169 overall.
SIUE is off until traveling to Dayton, Ohio for the Dayton Fall Invitational Oct. 19-20.
"We had some great improvement from a lot of girls today, which was great to see," Brown added. "We're looking forward to Dayton in a couple of weeks."
