Stair Earns All Newcomer Honors from OVC

Women's Golf All OVC Release

DICKSON, Tenn. – SIUE freshman golfer Ashton Stair (Milton, Wis.) has been named to the All-Newcomer Team in the Ohio Valley Conference. The awards were announced Sunday at the OVC Women's Golf Championships.

Stair posted five top-10 finishes and three top-five finishes. Her best finish came at Western Illinois where she finished three strokes off the pace in second place and helped the Cougars to a second-place finish. She was second on the team with a scoring average of 82.2. Her low round of the year came in the first round at Western Illinois where she carded a 74.
"I am very excited for Ashton," SIUE Head Coach Jennifer Jakel said. "She is very deserving of this award.  As a freshman she has come in and posted five top-ten finishes and has the second lowest scoring average on our team."
Morehead State's Vanessa Bognot, the Freshman of the Year, headlined the five-person All-Newcomer squad. The team, aside from Stair, included Austin Peay junior Lauren Bond and freshmen Hannah Sublett, also of Morehead State, and Murray State's Sophie Olley.
"Ashton is an asset to our team in many ways; she is confident in her abilities, always has a positive attitude, and has great demeanor both on and off the course," Jakel added. "She is very dedicated to golf as well as academics, and I am certain her best golf is yet to come."
