TODAY'S OPPONENT
UMKC, a member of the Summit League, holds a 1-2 record this season. The Kangaroos dropped games to Drake and Texas-Arlington with a win in between against Division II Rockhurst. Junior guard Dayon Hall-Jones leads the team with 17.0 points per game and is shooting 55 percent from the field.

BUSY WEEK
SIUE has three games this week beginning with tonight's matchup against UMKC. The Cougars return home to face Austin Peay for a Friday contest and Saint Louis Sunday.

DUNCAN'S BREAKOUT
Melia Duncan hit a career-high five three-pointers in the loss to Illinois State. She scored 21 points, missing her career high by a single point.

DECKER LIFTS BENCH
Allyssa Decker scored 12 of the team's 14 points off the bench against Illinois State. The Cougar freshman was 6 of 11 from the field and has now hit a team-leading 66.7 percent of her shots from the field through three games.

TURNOVERS CUT BACK
SIUE gave up the ball 31 times in the loss to Wichita State. That's the most in two seasons. The Cougars were able to turn it around, giving up the basketball just 13 times at Illinois State.

GROWTH IN WINS
SIUE won five games in the first season for Amanda Levens and eight games last season. The Cougars defeated three teams which would go on to play during the 2009-2010 postseason (Morehead State, UMKC, and Cal State Bakersfield).

HILL-TOPPER
Jazmin Hill is the team's leader in assists with 12. She doubled her season total with six at ISU.

LACK OF FREE THROWS
The good news is that SIUE was perfect from the free throw line against Illinois State. The bad news is that SIUE only made it to the free throw line three times. The first free throw was on a three-point play by Raven Berry with 1:44 to play in the first half. The next two were by Amanda Ledbetter off a second-half foul.

SENIOR CLASS
The Cougars have two seniors on this year's roster. Sydney Stahlberg and Whitney Champlin combined for 195 rebounds and 18 of the team's 47 blocks last season.

OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS
SIUE recorded the same number of offensive rebounds (15) as defensive rebounds against Illinois State.

STAHLBERG BOARDS
Sydney Stahlberg led the team in rebounds for the second time this season at Illinois State and the ninth time in her career.

TWO SIGNEES FOR COUGARS
Katie Hempen (Highland) and Tierny Austin (Rockford) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the women's basketball program. Both scored 1,000 career points before their senior season and were named All-State. Hempen, a 5-foot, 9-inch guard, was the Most Valuable Player for a second time last season for the Lady Bulldogs. The fourth-place finisher in the state in the IHSA's three-point shooting contest, she averaged a team-leading 14.7 points per game and 3.1 steals per game last season. Austin, a 5-10 forward, averaged 21.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game last season in leading Auburn High School to its best record in school history at 26-6.

OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
SIUE officially joined the OVC on July 1, 2008. All SIUE team sports will begin regular season competition in the OVC during the 2011-12 academic year and will be eligible for post-season competition in 2012-13. SIUE women's basketball is eligible for the Women's NIT and the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). SIUE softball is the exception as it is eligible for the postseason in 2011.

SIUE REFERENCES
The proper usage of the University's name is Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. There are no hyphens or other words to connect University and Edwardsville. SIUE is always acceptable. SIU Edwardsville is appropriate, also minus a hyphen. The nickname is Cougars, which is the same for men and women.
