EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team does a lot of shooting, a lot of running and a lot of playing ball. Now, the team can add community service to its list of things they enjoy doing.
On July 30 and August 4, the entire SIUE coaching staff, and players Jessie Stapleton and Brittany Imig, donated their time to the Glen Ed Pantry in Edwardsville. The team helped fill backpacks and prepare other school supplies for young children in the area.
The Glen Ed Pantry provides services for people whose income falls below the Illinois Department of Human Services eligibility guidelines. The Pantry mostly helps out with food, clothing, rent assistance and referrals for vision and dental care. Employees and volunteers at the pantry get especially busy during the holidays when they provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to those who wouldn't have much food otherwise. The women's basketball team is looking forward to helping out again during in the future and during the holidays.
The Glen Ed Pantry was established in 1980 and is located near Buffalo Wild Wings in Edwardsville. To donate or volunteer your time, call (618) 656-7506.
