Jocelyn Duke Named Assistant Coach for SIUE Women's Basketball

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Jocelyn Duke has been named an assistant coach for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball program.

Duke, who most recently has been an assistant coach at Lock Haven (Pa.) University, is very familiar with the Midwest as well as the Ohio Valley Conference. A native of Louisville, Ky., she played two seasons of basketball at OVC rival Austin Peay.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Jocelyn to the program. Her knowledge on and off the court will provide a big boost to our growing program," said SIUE Head Coach Amanda Levens.

Duke spent three seasons at Lock Haven. She also worked two seasons as the girls' basketball head coach at Shawnee High School in Louisville. Her hard work and dedication led to Coach of the Year honors at Shawnee. She also was an All-Star Coach at the 2006 Kentucky Battle of the Bridges game.

"I am looking forward to working with Coach Levens and her staff," said Duke. "With her leadership and enthusiasm, I am confident about the continuing development of this program."

She has served as a Level III instructor of business law classes on-line and as an instructor for the In-School suspension program at Shawnee. Duke mentored and monitored students who displayed disciplinary problems.

Her coaching career also extends to DuPont High School in Louisville as a freshman girls coach and assistant varsity coach as well as a junior varsity head coach and assistant varsity coach at Jeffersontown (Ky.) High School.

Duke's collegiate playing career began at Wabash Valley Community College. The power forward earned an Associate's degree at Wabash Valley before transferring to Austin Peay.

At Austin Peay, she earned the Extra Mile Award and honorable mention All-OVC honors as a senior. She helped the Lady Govs to an OVC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance during the 2000-2001 season. She led the OVC in total rebounds that season with 253.

She graduated from Austin Peay in 2001 with a bachelor of science in psychology. Duke also earned a master of liberal arts degree from Lock Haven in 2010.
