SIUE's Hempen Earns Third OVC Freshman of the Week Honor

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - For the third time this season, SIUE women's basketball standout Katie Hempen has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.

Hempen averaged 13.5 points per game last week as the Cougars improved to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in the OVC. The Cougars currently are tied for third in the OVC in their first season of league play.

A perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line this past week, Hempen helped the Cougars to a 1-1 record this past week, including a come-from-behind win over Austin Peay. Hempen led four players Monday in double figures with 17 points against the Lady Govs.

The next action for SIUE is Monday at Jacksonville State. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
