Several Honored at SIUE Women’s Basketball Banquet

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – SIUE women's basketball had a banner year, and Friday's banquet at Crystal Gardens in Edwardsville celebrated it.

SIUE Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt announced the awards for the 2011-12 women's basketball team, which finished the season with an 18-12 record and an appearance in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) in March.

Junior center Raven Berry had her hands full after the evening with numerous awards. She received her second team All-Ohio Valley Conference plaque as well as momentos for leading scorer (11.7 points per game) and leading rebounder (9.8 rebounds per game). Berry also collected a commemorative basketball celebrating her 1,000th point as a Cougar – the 15th player in school history to achieve the honor.

Junior Courtney Kenner earned plaques for team leader in steals (55) and team leader in assists (4.0 per game).

Melia Duncan, a senior, received the Cougar Pride Award which is given to the player who best displays the qualities that exemplify an outstanding SIUE women's basketball student-athlete.

Duncan and fellow senior Madison Meade also were honored for their four seasons with framed jerseys. The duo, in turn, gave banners from the WBI to Hewitt and SIUE Chancellor Dr. Vaughn Vandegrift.
