TODAY'S OPPONENT
South Dakota Head Coach Ryun Williams and his Coyotes invade the Vadalabene Center for the sixth meeting between the two schools. South Dakota holds a 4-1 edge in the series. Amber Hegge is the team's leading scorer with 16.8 points per game and is the only player averaging double figures.

LAST MEETING
SIUE dropped a 63-52 decision at the DakotaDome back in February. Raven Berry scored 20 points in the loss. SIUE defeated South Dakota earlier last season 62-51 at the Vadalabene Center.

LAST OUTING
SIUE got its first taste of an overtime game under Head Coach Amanda Levens. The Cougars shot 1 of 9 in the overtime period and fell 84-78 to Eastern Illinois. Raven Berry led SIUE with 24 points. Jazmin Hill scored 21 points, including five three-pointers. Courtney Kenner added a season-high 11 points.

MORE THAN A HILL OF BEANS
Jazmin Hill set a season and career high with five three-pointers against Eastern Illinois. The Cougar freshman has recorded a three-pointer in 13 of 14 games this season and at least two in seven straight games.

THE STARTING FIVE
Coach Levens has had seven different starting lineup combinations this season, but the most used has been the group that includes Raven Berry, Melia Duncan, Sydney Stahlberg, Madison Meade and Jazmin Hill. SIUE used that combination of starters in both of its wins this season. Valerie Finnin earned her first start of the season in the overtime loss to Eastern Illinois.

JUST ONE MORE BUCKET
Raven Berry needs just two points to become the 41st player in school history to record 500 points in a career. After her 24-point effort against EIU, Berry is now averaging nearly 11 points per game.

THREE FOR THE E
Melia Duncan passed Allison Fogle (2005-2006) for seventh on the all-time three-pointers list. Duncan currently has 94 three-pointers after hitting two at Indiana State. Sarah Schweers (1999-2003) is next on the list with 102.

VS. OHIO VALLEY
SIUE is 1-3 against OVC schools this season with a win over Austin Peay and losses to Morehead State, Murray State and Eastern Illinois. SIUE has 12 games against OVC teams this season and home-and-home contests against four OVC schools, including Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Tennessee State and Morehead State.

ADDING A GAME
It's not often that teams add a game mid-season, but that's what Head Coach Amanda Levens has done. The Cougars will travel to Purdue for a 7 p.m. ET game Jan. 27. Purdue needed a game after it cancelled a November trip to Mexico because one of their players had meningitis.

GAME TIME CHANGE
The Eastern Kentucky game has been moved up to a day game on Monday, Jan. 17. The Martin Luther King Day contest will be played at 1 p.m.

FREE THROW WOES
SIUE's opponents have taken 130 more free throw attempts in the first 14 games. That has added up to 7.4 points per game more than the Cougars from the charity stripe.

FREE THROWS IN LAST FOUR MINUTES
Raven Berry 8-11
Sydney Stahlberg 7-8
Jazmin Hill 5-9
Michaela Herrod 3-6
Courtney Kenner 2-2

TAKING THE ADVANTAGE
EIU committed 22 turnovers Thursday. It was the fifth time this season that SIUE has forced more than 20 turnovers in a game.

WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR
The Cougars went without a victory in the month of December. In the last three seasons, SIUE is 1-22 in December.

FINNIN GAINS START
Valerie Finnin was the final freshman to gain a starting assignment this season against Eastern Illinois. Finnin scored six points against EIU. The other debuts included eight points from Jazmin Hill vs. Wichita State, two points from Allyssa Decker vs. DePaul, and no points from Amanda Ledbetter vs. Ball State.

HITTING THE THREE
SIUE hit a season-high nine three-pointers against EIU.

TWO SIGNEES FOR COUGARS
Katie Hempen (Highland) and Tierny Austin (Rockford) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the women's basketball program. Both scored 1,000 career points before their senior season and were named All-State. Hempen, a 5-foot, 9-inch guard was the Most Valuable Player for a second time last season for the Lady Bulldogs. The fourth-place finisher in the state in the IHSA's three-point shooting contest, she averaged a team-leading 14.7 points per game and 3.1 steals per game last season. Austin, a 5-10 forward, averaged 21.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game last season in leading Auburn High School to its best record in school history at 26-6.

OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
SIUE officially joined the OVC on July 1, 2008. All SIUE team sports will begin regular season competition in the OVC during the 2011-12 academic year and will be eligible for post-season competition in 2012-13. SIUE women's basketball is eligible for the Women's NIT and the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). SIUE softball is the exception as it is eligible for the postseason in 2011.

SIUE REFERENCES
The proper usage of the University's name is Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. There are no hyphens or other words to connect University and Edwardsville. SIUE is always acceptable. SIU Edwardsville is appropriate, also minus a hyphen. The nickname is Cougars, which is the same for men and women.
