3rd Annual Harvest Run a Blustery Success

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE cross country and track and field programs hosted the 3rd Annual Harvest Run fund-raiser Sunday at the SIUE Cross Country Course.

Nearly 100 participants braved the cool, windy weather to take part in the 5,000-meter event.

"Despite the windy weather, we had a good turnout and a great race," said SIUE cross country Head Coach Eileen McAllister. "It was an awesome opportunity to showcase the beautiful course we have at SIUE!"

Dustin Macuiba, 14, made the trip from Gurnee, Ill., and was the first overall male finisher (excluding SIUE athletes). He finished the course in 19 minutes, 20.17 seconds.

The first overall female finisher (excluding SIUE athletes) was Colleen Madden, 14, of Carlinville, Ill. She traversed the 5k in 23:06.14.

SIUE senior Marc Amarillas continued to do what he did all season by leading the Cougars. He finished first overall in 15:45.36. That marks a 22-second improvement from last year's event.

"Marc looked strong and led the race from start to finish," McAllister added. "It's a very good time, especially with the difficulty of the course and the wind."

Junior Aaron Werths ran a four-second course personal best with a time of 16:04.99 to finish second. His time was 40 seconds better than the 2010 Harvest Run.

Freshman Nick Moore dropped nine seconds off his previous home course best, and senior Shawn Dillard dropped 15 seconds. Marc Presley finished 27 seconds faster than his time at the event last year.

The top female finisher for SIUE was senior Aftan Noon with a time of 19:05.42. Freshman Katie Trettenero ran a home course personal best by seven seconds finishing in 20:42.35. She participated in 2010 as a high school senior and improved that time by nearly two minutes.

Cougar track and field Head Coach Kareem Jackson got in the action as well and improved his time from the 2009 event by 1:39.

"We appreciate the support of our family, friends, and the SIUE community," McAllister said. "A special thanks to our sponsors TRXC Timing, Country Hearth Inn & Suites, The Cyclery, and Troy Physical Therapy."
