EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling faced a pair of lopsided matches Saturday, defeating Knox 48-3 and falling to Northern Illinois 40-3.

SIUE improved its season record to 6-14 after the day's matches.

The Cougars will compete in their final regular season event Thursday. Truman State comes to the Vadalabene Center for a 7 p.m. match to make up for the match originally scheduled for Feb. 3.

"That will be a good time for us to rebound after this," said SIUE Head Coach David Ray.

Michael Dace was the lone double winner for the Cougars. He pinned Knox's Alex Faulkner in 1 minute, 16 seconds. The Cougar junior also earned a decision over Northern Illinois' Caleb Busson 7-3.

"We expected Dace to win. We also expected to win a couple of other matches, but we had tough matches where we couldn't find a way to win," said Ray.

Northern Illinois collected three pins and also won three matches by three points or less.

SIUE's victory against Knox featured four straight pins. Derrick Pousson got it started with a 4:29 pin over Erin Steingruber at 149 pounds. Kyle Lowman bested Dylan Reynolds at 157 pounds in 1:58. Gabe Hocum won in the second period with a 3:56 pin over Sergio Ulloa at 165 pounds. Dace's pin over Faulker was the fastest of the day for SIUE.
