In a battle of two teams that will be in the Mid-American Conference next season, the final score was not necessarily indicative of how competitive the match was.
"We did a good job of competing in several matches," said Spates.
Gentzler opened up the match with a 7-5 overtime victory over Aaron Assad at 125 pounds. Gentzler recorded two takedowns in the third period and one final one in overtime.
"It looked like late in the match he was down and was going to lose," said Spates. "Then he started getting his offense going, and that's what we've really talked with him and the team in general.
"That was exciting for the crowd starting out."
Muldoon improved to 6-0 at 133 pounds after accepting a forfeit.
Although the Tigers, now 18-0 as a team, won the rest of the matches on the mat, four of the matches were decided by one or two points.
Dakota Leach dropped a 17-15 decision to returning 141-pound All-American Jaydin Eierman, putting the redshirt sophomore, who has just one loss this season, on his back and nearly pinned.
"We have to go out and compete every chance we get," said Spates.
