EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling welcomes No. 3 Missouri to the Vadalabene Center for a 6 p.m. contest Wednesday.
SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates said SIUE's tactics and preparation won't be any different than it would be for any other team despite Missouri's national ranking.
"We're trying not to change the mentality," said Spates. "That's one thing we've really talked about with our team. We want to approach our matches the same way every time.
Missouri has eight wrestlers who are ranked nationally in the top 20 heading into the meet and are 17-0 in dual meets. SIUE, 6-12 overall, looks to be competitive in what will be a Mid-American Conference match next season.
"In the future, if we want to win MAC Championships and have individual champions, Missouri is a team we're going to have to compete against," added Spates.
John Muldoon (133), Tyshawn Williams (149) and Christian Dulaney (197) all were double winners this past weekend when SIUE closed out its Southern Conference regular season schedule. Spates also noted strong results of late from 125-pounder Zac Gentzler and 165-pounder Nate Higgins.
"A lot of our guys have been wrestling well," said Spates.
