EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Four SIUE wrestlers picked up individual victories Friday in the Cougars' 24-14 loss to Buffalo at the Vadalabene Center.

"We definitely felt better about how we wrestled in a lot of matches," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates.

SIUE, 2-8, will have little time to rest before its next action. The Cougars head to Springfield, Illinois, at the Bank of Springfield Center for two dual matches, facing The Citadel in a 6 p.m. Southern Conference match and Northern Illinois at 7:30 p.m.

The Cougars got out to a strong start against Buffalo when Zac Gentzler picked up his first win in front of a Vadalabene Center crowd on Alumni Night. Gentzler defeated Buffalo's Justin Patrick 11-6.

"Zach did a great job getting a turn in his match," said Spates. "That's big when your 125-pounder starts out on the mat and gets a win."

Nate Higgins gained his first major decision of the season and his 10th win at 165 pounds with a 12-2 triumph over Noah Grover.

"We've been talking a lot about scoring bonus points," Spates said.

Bryce Shewan was aggressive at 184 pounds, collecting seven takedowns en route to a 17-6 victory over Buffalo's Brent Perry.

"He wrestled hard from whistle to whistle," Spates noted.

Christian Dulaney earned SIUE's final victory but had to go to the distance in overtime for a 4-2 win at 97 pounds. His takedown in the third overtime period over Joe Ariola provided the margin of victory.

"He dug deep against a tough kid," said Spates.

Buffalo earned a forfeit at 174 pounds and picked up a pin from Kobe Garrehy at 157 pounds.
