Lindenwood Open Next for Cougars

Lindenwood Open

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling will have a short commute to its next event Saturday, and the trip figures to be well worth it.

The Cougars join numerous fellow NCAA Division I schools Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Wisconsin and West Virginia at the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Missouri.

"This tournament has grown over the years and has become one of the better tournaments in the country," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "It's very similar to the old St. Louis Open that a lot of alumni remember."

SIUE will send 17 wrestlers to the event, which is divided into a gold division and a freshman/sophomore division.

John Muldoon (141 pounds) and Nate Higgins (165 pounds) will look to continue their respective winning streaks. Muldoon is 4-0 while Higgins is 5-0.

Spates said his team has been making adjustments based off the first two events of the season.

"We really have to work on our takedown finishes," said Spates. "At the Drexel dual and the Cyclone Open, we were getting in on shots but just not putting points up on the board."
