Myers Leads Cougars

Patrick Myers

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Patrick Myers collected SIUE wrestling's lone victory Wednesday in a 43-3 road loss to No. 5-ranked Missouri.

SIUE dropped to 3-16 for the season. Missouri improved its dual meet record at 12-2 on its Senior Night.

"They gave Missouri a lot of respect," said SIUE Head Coach David Ray. "It showed during the match."

Missouri sent out seven wrestlers ranked in the top 20 nationally in their respective weight classes against the Cougars.

David Devine was able to hang tough with top-ranked Dom Bradley at heavyweight. Bradley, who remains undefeated in 28 matches, edged Devine 6-2.

"He (Devine) probably wrestled the toughest of anybody all night," said Ray. "David finished well. He had a single leg at the end. I think if he had a few more seconds he could have finished it."

Myers ran his overall record to 16-8 with a 6-1 triumph over Boomer Boyd at 133 pounds.

"He wrestled well and did what he had to do to win the match," said Ray.

SIUE will have its own Senior Day Sunday at the Vadalabene Center when it plays host to a quadrangular meet. SIUE faces Knox at noon, Lindenwood (Belleville) at 1:45 p.m., and Indiana at 3:30 p.m.

"I think we'll see some good things out of our guys Sunday," Ray said.
