SIUE Track and Field Selects Team Captains

Nov. 28, 2011

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE track and field team named Marc Amarillas, Kaleb Henry, Colleen McDonough, and Kristin Wykoff as team captains for the 2011-12 season.

The four student-athletes were selected in a vote of the rest of the Cougar squad.

Amarillas is the lone senior captain. The Quincy native competes in the distance events for SIUE and currently holds the school record in the 3,000-meter run.

"Marc has made tremendous strides over the past two years and to see him voted as captain was a well-deserved honor," Head Coach Kareem Jackson said.

Henry, a junior thrower from Loup City, Neb., set a personal best in both the indoor shot put (45-5) and weight throw (47-1.25) a year ago.

"Kaleb is a very involved student-athlete," Jackson added. "Serving as the vice president of SAAC and an official for recreation sports, he is a hard worker and a good leader."

Representing the women's side is a pair of junior throwers in McDonough (Orland Hills) and Wykoff (St. Jacob). McDonough ranks No. 3 all-time at SIUE in the outdoor hammer throw with a mark of 161-10 set last year.

"Colleen is a two-time captain and leads by example," Jackson said. "She always is encouraging and has an upbeat attitude. Her energy and effort are contagious to the rest of the team."

Wykoff owns the SIUE record for the indoor discus throw set in 2010. Last outdoor season, she won the discus at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, with a season-best throw of 140-8, as well as the Twilight Invitational.

"Kristin does an awesome job getting to know each one of her teammates," Jackson said. "She knows when they PR and as a teammate they really appreciate the fact that she truly cares."

The Cougars open the indoor season Dec. 3 at SIU Carbondale for the Saluki Fast Start.
