Cougars Impress in Final Day of OVC Championships

COOKEVILLE, Tn. – The SIUE track and field teams had multiple medal winners in the final day of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Saturday.

The day started out with SIUE Senior thrower Martinus Mitchell taking first in the men's shot put (58 feet, 2 inches). This was Mitchells first OVC Championship in the shot put.

In the men's triple jump, Julian Harvey won the event with a leap of 50-10.75. Harvey also placed first in the 100m (10.60). Freshmen DeVonte Tincher placed sixth in the 100m (10.76).

Brittney Gibbs placed second in the women's triple jump with a mark of 41-6.50. The win gave Gibbs her first OVC medal of her career.

In the women's shot put, Claire Nolan took third with a mark of 48-1.75. This was Nolan's first OVC outdoor medal.

The SIUE men's 4x100 team (Dalton Oakes, Collin Brown, Harvey and Tincher) placed fourth with a season best time of 41.43. Nylo Clarke placed sixth in the men's 200m (21.60).

Liam O'Connell picked up a team point in the men's 1500m by placing eighth (3:58.53) and senior Haley Miller finished tenth in the women's 5K (18:19.11).

The SIUE men finished fifth overall with 102 points and the SIUE women placed eighth overall with 58 points.
