EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE track and field teams will compete in the Bill Cornell Classic Friday and Saturday. The meet is being held at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex on the campus of SIU Carbondale.
There will be 11 of the top schools from around the Midwest competing at the classic, including Illinois, Purdue, and Ohio Valley Conference foes Eastern Illinois and UT Martin.
The men's and women's discus will be the only events Friday. All other events will take place Saturday.
"The meet this weekend will be exciting," SIUE Assistant Coach Joey Pacione said. "SIU Carbondale did a phenomenal job of inviting high caliber competition. On paper, this is the best regular season meet we will compete in since I've coached here. It's an opportunity for our athletes to challenge themselves and embrace the best part of our sport, which is doing your best to beat the person next to you."
Pacione had high praise of how the team has responded after taking two weeks off since competing last.
"It has been great to get two weeks of consecutive training in without a competition," added Pacione. "It allowed us to get back to work on things that we needed to have success in the future, like fixing technique flaws and getting in a good amounts of high-quality sprinting and lifting."
