Cougar Men's Tennis Ends Fall Season
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The SIUE men's tennis team concluded the fall portion of its schedule at the Austin Peay Fall Tournament.
The duo of Marten Jonsson and Justin Spicer combined to split a pair doubles matches in the Flight A bracket. They opened the event with an 8-5 win over Uno Lapimaa and Michael Wojnarowski of Lewis.
"Marten and Justin opened up doubles play winning against a very experienced doubles team that featured one of the best players in the tournament," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.
Freshman Stephen Washuta won two of his three singles matches in Flight C including a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Austin Peay's Drew Kerr in his final match.
"Stephen played a great match to cap off his weekend," said Coomer. "He got a service break in each set which was all he needed to hold on to the match."
Senior Devan Faulkenberg also won two matches in Flight C. He ended the tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lipscomb's Chad Pierron.
"Devan had a strong outing this weekend in singles," added Coomer. "His experience showed as he came out playing with a lot of focus from the beginning of each match."
The Cougars will continue to train through the winter leading up to its first dual match of the spring Jan. 20 against IUPUI at the Edwardsville YMCA.
