SIUE Men's Tennis Loses 6-1 at Florida Atlantic
March 9, 2011
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Senior Paulo Gonzalez pulled off a valiant comeback for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's tennis but it proved to be the only point as the Cougars lost a 6-1 decision at Florida Atlantic Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls started the day with a sweep of all three doubles spots to get the first point.
After taking the bottom five singles positions, Florida Atlantic already had the match won, but did not stop Gonzalez from earning a come-from-behind win at No. 1 singles.
Having lost the opening set 6-2, Gonzalez rallied to win the second set 7-6 (7-2) before winning the third-set tiebreak 10-7 for the win over Marc Abdelnour, a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference First Team selection.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 0-8 on the spring while the Owls improved to 6-4 with the victory.
SIUE will close its Spring Break trip to Florida with a match against the Troy Trojans Thursday in Fort Myers, Fla.
