Raymond to Join SIUE Men’s Tennis

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Two-time Florida state singles champion Michael Raymond (Naples, Florida) will join the SIUE men's tennis program this fall, announced SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.

Raymond joins an SIUE men's tennis program that qualified for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time in school history this spring and returns eight of nine players.

Raymond led Barron Collier High School to four consecutive state championships and was a two-time runner-up for the national championship. He earned a singles state title in both 2013 and 2014. He also earned a state title in doubles in 2014.

"I have known about Mikey for a few years now and watched him get bigger and stronger through his high school days," said Coomer. "The upside Mikey possesses both physically and technically is exciting. He is a tremendous talent, and I am excited for him to get to campus this fall."

The 5-foot, 10-inch right-handed player finished his senior season with a 14-1 singles record.

"Mikey has played a vital role in the success of Barron Collier's run over the past four seasons," Coomer said. "Competing against some of the best junior talent Florida as well as the country, has only strengthened Mikey's competitive drive."

Raymond joins his older sister, Lindsey, who is a member of the SIUE women's tennis team. He expects to major in Business Administration at SIUE and would like to become a commercial pilot.
