Cougar Men Blank Tigers for First OVC Win
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE men's tennis team picked up its first-ever Ohio Valley Conference victory Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 win over Tennessee State at the SIUE Tennis Courts.
The Cougars (3-8, 1-2 OVC) got on the board first claiming the doubles point by taking all three positions. The No. 1 team of Marten Jonsson and Jacob Tanulanond won for the ninth consecutive time beating TSU's Lawrence Washington and Shaun Ingram 8-3.
SIUE breezed through singles play winning all five contested matches in straight sets over the Tigers, who dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the OVC.
Jonsson defeated Washington at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1, and Morten Christensen followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over TSU's Ingram at the No. 2 position.
Nicolas Vincent easily took down the Tigers' William Simmons at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-2.
Devan Faulkenberg and Dylan Reed did not lose a game at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, to round out the afternoon for the Cougars.
SIUE looks for a weekend sweep when it hosts Jacksonville State Sunday.
