FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's tennis team continues to search for its first win of the spring after a 5-2 loss to the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh University Tuesday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Gonzalez dispatched the Mountain Hawks' Troy List 6-3, 6-4 playing a strong match to bounce back after losing yesterday. "He was on the offensive the whole day and kept his composure," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.
Vogt defeated Ryan Krueger 6-3, 6-1 and impressed Coach Coomer with his mental and physical toughness in the match.
"Ryan played smart and was able to control from the beginning," added Coomer. "He was on the court a long time where his level of fitness showed."
Lehigh claimed all three doubles matches, including the No. 1 position where Gonzalez and partner Justin Spicer dropped serve once. That one game proved the difference against the nationally-ranked duo of List and Collin Laffey in an 8-6 loss.
The Cougars fell to 0-7 on the year while Lehigh moved to 8-4 with the victory.
SIUE continues its Spring Break trip with a match at Florida Atlantic Wednesday afternoon.
