Men's Soccer Heads to Quincy

  August 26, 2002

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's road back to the NCAA Soccer Final Four starts this weekend at the Soccer Bowl in Quincy.
After an injury-plagued preseason which saw his team go 1-2, Coach Ed Huneke hopes his team regains its health soon.
"We still have some guys who are recovering from injuries," said Huneke. "But I still think we'll be in as good of shape as we can be."
One of those returning from a preseason injury is Yuzuru Takami (Japan). The top returning scorer from a year ago, Takami finished the season with eight goals and seven assists.
Matt Evers (Edwardsville) will be back in goal for the Cougars. A second-team All-Region selection from a year ago, Evers will look to better his 0.99 goals against average from last season.
The Cougars will face Rockhurst at the Soccer Bowl in Quincy on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tilt. Rockurst, who plays in the Heartland Conference, finished with a 6-10-2 mark last season. They will then battle No. 8 Ashland at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Ashland finished with a 12-5-1 mark and lost last season to SIUE in the national quarterfinals in Edwardsville.
