Tom Galati was a second team All-American for the Cougars in 1973. He played four seasons as a defender for SIUE from 1970 to 1973. Galati was a member of the 1972 national championship team. He scored six goals and added three assists in his final three seasons as a Cougar. Galati was selected by the Philadelphia Atoms of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the first round of the draft. He helped the Atoms to the NASL championship and was named the runner-up in the Rookie of the Year voting. He played for several other NASL teams after the Atoms folded. Galati also signed to play for the St. Louis Steamers in 1980 but was released before the beginning of the season. He earned one cap with the U.S. National team in a 7-0 loss to Poland in 1975. He graduated from SIUE in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
