SIUE Men's Soccer to Face Saint Louis FC Saturday

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's soccer Head Coach Mario Sanchez has announced several items of news for the team, including the renewal of the preseason friendly with Saint Louis FC. Also included is former player news and additions to the roster. 

  • Friendly with Saint Louis FC

The Cougars will face Saint Louis FC Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in an exhibition game for the USL side. This is the third consecutive year the two teams have played one another. Thee game takes place at Worldwide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri. Admission is free. More information from Saint Louis FC.

  • Kendall-Moullin Signs Professional Contract

Former SIUE midfielder Andrew Kendall-Moullin has signed a deal with Atlanta United's USL team. Kendall-Moullin played in 72 games for the Cougars from 2013-2016. The full release from Atlanta United 2

Sanchez has added one freshman and five transfers to the program.

Santiago Cardona Escobar - Midfielder 
Rever, Massachusetts
Dean College

Transfer from Division III Dean College...Played in 20 games, made 19 starts in 2017...Scored four goals and added three assists for 11 points...Took 27 shots.

Sanchez on Santiago Escobar:
"I saw Santiago play two years ago for the New England Revolution Academy.  He is a dynamic attacking player who can unbalance opponents."

Noah Heim – Goalkeeper
Cambridge, Wisconsin

Transfer from Marquette...Started six games in goal for the Golden Eagles, amassing 498:25 between the posts...Finished with a save percentage of .632...First start in goal came against No. 14 Georgetown, where he made six saves...Recorded a win against Creighton 10/25.

Sanchez on Noah Heim:
"Noah will add competition at our GK position. Playing at Marquette, Noah has gained valuable experience at a top program and in the Big East."

Ado Jahic – Midfielder
St. Louis, Missouri
Mehlville HS

Played in 30 games over two seasons at Bradley...Only career point was an assist at SIUE 10/22/16...Has International experience with Bosnian U17 and 19 National Teams...Played one season for Mehlville High School, helping lead Panthers to the Missouri State Quarterfinals...Scored 23 goals and added seven assists in 21 games.

Sanchez on Ado Jahic:
"Ado is a local product of SLSG Academy. We recruited Ado out of high school and he decided to attend Bradley. We are happy to have Ado back home and looking forward to Ado adding depth to our midfield."

Cliff Maina – Midfielder
Adelaide, Australia
South Florida

Transfer from South Florida...Played in 17 games in 2016 for the Bulls...Scored a goal on two shots.

Sanchez on Cliff Maina:
"Cliff has top NCAA Div. I experience having played and started for University of South Florida. Cliff is a very good athlete, reads the game very well, and fits our style of play. Cliff adds competition to our center midfield and great leadership ability to our team."

Joergen Pettersen – Midfielder
Fredrickstad, Norway

Played two seasons at Division II Maryville in St. Louis...Appeared in 38 games over two seasons for the Saints...Scored seven goals and added five assists over two seasons...Was an Academic All-Great Lakes Valley selection as a freshman.

Sanchez on Joergen Pettersen:
"Joergen was a top Division II player at Maryville. He has proven to have the talent to play at the top Division I level. We expect Joergen to make an immediate impact in our midfield."

Kelby Phillips – Midfielder
Springfield, Illinois
Springfield High School

Comes to SIUE from Springfield High School...A two-time All-American selection and four-time All-State pick...Owns the Illinois High School career assist record with 163...Also holds Springfield's record for goals in a season with 40.

Sanchez on Kelby Phillips:
"He is one of the top local talents; a high school All American. Kelby is an extremely quick one-on-one attacking player.  We believe we have signed one of the top players in the Midwest with Kelby!"
