SIUE (3-5-0) vs.
Oral Roberts (2-4-1)
Sat., Sept. 30, 7 p.m.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Following three consecutive games on the road, SIUE men's soccer returns to Korte Stadium for a Saturday night matchup with Oral Roberts. Saturday's game is the first of a four-game home stand for the Cougars.
"For any team it's always nice to play at home," SIUE Head Coach Mario Sanchez said. "It's nice to get into our routine. At the same time it's healthy for us to learn how to win on the road. A lot of the postseason is on the road."
SIUE and Oral Roberts are meeting for the fourth time, but the first time since 2010, a game which ended in a scoreless draw. SIUE has the only win in the series ( a 3-1 home win in 1992). There have been two ties.
The Cougars have lost two straight games and are 3-5-0 overall. Oral Roberts has dropped three in a row and enters the match at 2-4-1.
The Golden Eagles were defeated 5-1 on the road at UNLV in their last outing.
"They are a skillful, talented team," Sanchez said of Oral Roberts. "They've had some injuries and it has been hard for them to find some consistency. From a pure talent standpoint they may be one of the most talented teams we'll face. They're coming off a difficult loss. They'll be highly motivated."
SIUE has been idle since last Saturday, a 1-0 loss at Loyola. The Ramblers scored the game's lone goal in the 85th minute.
"Other than the result, I was pleased with the Loyola game," Sanchez said. "We've had two very good weeks of practice and we are making strides. We need to continue to focus on putting together a full 90 minutes."
The Cougars next play a midweek contest Tuesday against Milwaukee before playing the first of a five-game Mid-American Conference schedule next Saturday against Bowling Green.
"As we push toward conference play we need to make sure we are getting better every day," Sanchez added. "We need to be sure we approach every game with the right attitude."
