EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Former SIUE men's soccer standout Christian Volesky re-introduced himself to St. Louis area soccer fans, starring in Saint Louis FC's 3-2 home-opening win over Ottawa Fury.
Two years after being named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year while playing for the Cougars, Volesky signed with the USL side after playing two seasons with the Rochester Rhinos, also of the USL.
Volesky wasted no time in Saturday's home opener, putting the home team on top 1-0 in the fifth minute. Just four minutes later, Volesky assisted on a goal to push STLFC's lead to 2-0.
Saint Louis FC picked up the game-winner in the 88th minute. While officially charged as an own goal to Ottawa, it was Volesky who helped set up the play on the deciding goal.
After beginning his college career at Denver, Volesky played three seasons for SIUE appearing in 57 games and scoring 23 goals. He finished his career with 50 points, which was good for 27th on the school's all-time list.
