SIUE Men’s Soccer Gains National Recognition
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – The National Collegiate Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) gave SIUE some good news in its latest NCAA Division I poll.
SIUE received 12 votes in the first NSCAA NCAA Division I poll after starting the season 2-0. The Cougars were winners of the Hilton Garden Inn Hokies Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., with a 3-1 victory over host Virginia Tech on Friday and a 1-0 win over No. 19 James Madison Sunday.
Head Coach Kevin Kalish and the Cougars are 2-0 to open a season for the first time since 2004.
The Cougars will face two top teams at this week's Ameritas Classic in Omaha, Neb. Rutgers, who meets SIUE Friday, is one slot behind SIUE in the NSCAA poll with 10 points. Akron is ranked No. 7 nationally in the NSCAA poll. SIUE faces the Zips Sunday.
