Jeffery, Polster Named Preseason All-MVC
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – Senior Benny Jeffery (Florissant, Mo.) and sophomore Matt Polster (Las Vegas, Nev.) were named preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference Tuesday as the league released its annual coaches' poll.
SIUE men's soccer was picked to finish in the middle of the pack at fourth. The Cougars are coming off an 8-8-4 record last season and a 1-4-1 record in MVC play.
Jeffery and Polster were named to the 13-member preseason All-MVC team. Jeffery, who has four goals and nine assists in his three previous seasons as a Cougar, also was preseason All-MVC last season before falling to injury during the 2011 preseason. Polster was the MVC Freshman of the Year and earned honorable mention All-MVC honors last season. He scored three goals and added a team-leading six assists in 2011.
Creighton, which garnered four first-place votes, was honored as the MVC preseason favorite. The Bluejays were followed by Missouri State and its three first-place votes. Bradley was picked to finish third followed by SIUE, Drake, Evansville, and Central Arkansas.
