EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team returns home this week after competing last weekend at the U of L tournament in Louisville, Ky.
"We are excited about playing at home again," SIUE coach Kevin Kalish said. "We are coming off a good weekend against two top teams (Louisville and Kentucky) in the country."
On Friday night, the Cougars play Columbia College starting at 7 p.m. at Korte Stadium. Columbia comes into the match with a 5-1 record.
On Sunday, the Cougars travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State. The Buckeyes hold a 2-0-2 record heading into the weekend.
Kalish likes the way his players are coming together.
"The combination of Nash Maduekwe (St. Louis), Randy Roy (St. Louis), Bielicki and Hempkens has been continuing to make improvements for us on defense," Kalish said. Goalkeeper Scott Meyer holds a goal against average of 1.50 and has collected 13 saves in four starts.
"Scott has been playing fantastic in goal," Kalish said.
"We are starting to compete for the whole 90 minutes," Kalish said. "We are showing glimpses of our potential to be more consistent."
