EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team looks to bounce back from two tough losses last weekend.
SIUE, 3-4, will take on the Dayton Flyers, who hold a record of 5-2-1. Game time in Dayton, Ohio, is 7:30 pm. ET on Friday. The Cougars come off losses to Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Loyola-Chicago, taking on the two Horizon League schools in back-to-back days.
"We played well on little rest. It is a testament to the players and the conditioning. They have worked hard in practice." SIUE Coach Kevin Kalish said. "We did a good job creating chances. We just didn't finish."
Kalish said his team is making progress.
"We learn a lot about ourselves in close games," Kalish said. "If we play well as a group and play as the team, we will have chances to win."
Kalish said he expects the Dayton game to be another challenge for the Cougars.
Mike Jones (St. Peter's, Mo.) and Ryan Wilhelm (St. Louis) have been performing well so far and been keeping a solid defense, noted Kalish.
"Our defense has continued to be a good base for our team to depend on," said Kalish.
In six games, goalkeeper Nick Frasca holds a 1.40 goals against averaged and totaled 28 saves. He'll be pitted Friday against Dayton goalkeeper Alex Davis, who has only allowed six goals with 26 saves in five games this season.
"It is crucial that we minimize our mistakes," Kalish said. "We have to put ourselves in position to win.
