NORMAL, Ill. – Three SIUE golfers finished among the top 25 and the Cougars moved up to fifth at Illinois State's D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate completed Sunday in less-than-ideal conditions.
The Cougars turned their best round of the tournament (290) in Sunday's finale, despite cold, windy and snowy conditions in central Illinois. SIUE finished at 901, just six strokes out of the top three.
"I am very happy with another good finish for our guys this spring," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said "We have really become a mentally-tough team and definitely had to use that this weekend. Yesterday's wind and cold mixed with today's wind chill in the low 20s with snow was a real challenge for all of the teams."
Duke took home team honors with an 871. Wisconsin was second at 886. Illinois State finished third with an 895.
Jordan Harre paced the Cougars individually. He tied for 15th with a 223. Brady Dixon and Kyle Slattery tied for 23rd, each with a 226. Austin Glendinning finished at 228 to tie for 34th. Danny Gorman tied for 54th at 232.
The Cougars have just a single tournament left in the regular season. SIUE will take part in the Mizzou Intercollegiate April 9-10.
The Ohio Valley Championships will take place April 23-25.
