EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE golf coach Derrick Brown has announced the additions of Albert Nilsson (Tyarred, Sweden) and Presley Mackelberg (Reno, Nevada) for the 2018-19 season.

Albert Nilsson

Nilsson will transfer to SIUE from Iowa Western CC. He is coming off a very strong fall sophomore campaign where 5 of his 12 competitive rounds were par or better. He is currently the No. 27 ranked junior college player in the country. He is part of a team that is currently ranked No. 4 in the country. Nilsson finished the runner-up at the 2017 Blue River Classic, where he closed with a final round of 66. He ended the fall with a stong finish of 13th at the National Junior College Preview with rounds of 75-71-70 at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Tx, the site of the National Junior College National Tournament.

Brown on Nilsson: "Albert is a strong player who will bring a lot of talent and power to our team. He has shown the ability to shoot low numbers, and I believe he is just getting to his full potential as a player. I look forward to Albert being a part of our team next fall."

Presley Mackelberg

In 30 tournament rounds in national and regional junior events, he averaged a score of 74.1 with a low of 64. Mackelberg will compete in his senior season this coming spring for Galena.

Brown on Mackelberg: "Presley was someone who stood out in the recruiting process because of his passion for the game and tournament experience.  He is very energetic and will bring a lot of experience to our team right away as a freshman.  We are excited to have him on board next year."
