EDWARDSVILE, Ill. – Following a highly successful 2016-17 season, SIUE golf Head Coach Derrick Brown has announced his schedule for the coming season.
"I am very excited about this year's upcoming schedule. We will compete in eight different states and see teams from 27 different NCAA conferences including the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and PAC 12."
The Cougars will compete in 10 tournaments. Four of the tournaments take place in the fall, which opens with one of two new tournaments SIUE will compete in, Air Force's Gene Miranda Invitational (Sep. 8-10). SIUE then returns to Eastern Kentucky for the EKU Intercollegiate sponsored by Raising Canes (Sep. 16-17).
The fall schedule is highlighted by SIUE's home event, the Derek Dolenc Invitational, presented by DoubleTree Hotels (Sep. 25-26). The fifth annual event will take place at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois. The Cougars finished second at the tournament last season and won the tournament in 2015, during its inaugural year at Gateway National.
SIUE will play host to its annual Alumni Match (Sep. 28) at Arlington Greens in Granite City, Illinois.
The Cougars conclude the fall slate with a trip to UMKC's Bill Ross Invitational (Oct. 9-10).
The spring schedule kicks off with a trip to Goodyear, Arizona for the Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 25-26). That will be followed by trips to South Dakota State's Jackrabbit Invitational (March 9-10), Missouri State's Twin Oaks Intercollegiate (March 19-20), Illinois State's D.A. Weibring Invitational (March 31-April 1) and the Mizzou Intercollegiate (April 9-10).
"We've added a couple new events highlighted by the Air Force Gene Miranda Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the Jackrabbit Invitational in Las Vegas," Brown said. "We will see top-level competition at both events."
The Ohio Valley Conference Championship (April 23-25) takes place at the Fighting Joe course at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for the fourth consecutive season. The Cougars earned their best-ever finish at last season's championship, finishing third.
"This schedule will give our guys the opportunity to compete at a high level and prepare us for the OVC Championships in April," Brown added.
