The 2017-18 season marks the 50th season of SIUE men's basketball. The men's basketball program began with the 1967-68 season, the first of three under the late Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Harry Gallatin.
SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his third season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 18-55 overall.
Following a five-game road swing, SIUE opens its OVC home season tonight. In six previous seasons, the Cougars have a 22-26 record in OVC games at Vadalabene Center.
Four SIUE players scored in double figures Saturday to lead SIUE men's basketball to its first-ever win at Morehead State. The Cougars upended the Eagles 70-65. Jalen Henry's fourth double-double of the season of 16 points and 11 rebounds paced the Cougars. Jaylen McCoy followed with 14 points. David McFarland scored 12 points. Daniel Kinchen added 10 points and a game and a career-high eight assists. Christian Ellis added four points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Bradon Jackson scored six points. The 65 points allowed by the Cougars is a season low. SIUE buried eight first-half three-pointers on its way to a 14-point lead at the break.
