NASHVILLE, Tenn. – SIUE sophomore point guard Donivine Stewart has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball All-Newcomer Team.

Stewart finished the regular season as the Cougar's leading scorer, averaging 12.2 points a game. He currently has 135 assists, which is the most for an SIUE player in the Division I era. He averages 4.5 assists a game and his assist to turnover ratio of 2.33 is third in the OVC.

Stewart joins OVC Freshman of the Year Cameron Payne and Jarvis Williams of Murray State, Eastern Illinois' Reggie Smith, and Southeast Missouri's Jarekious Bradley on the five-member All-Newcomer Team.

Belmont's J.J. Mann was selected as the Player of the Year. Belmot Head Coach Rick Byrd was chosen as the Coach of the Year. Corey Walden of Eastern Kentucky was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year.

Men's basketball is the No. 8 seed at the upcoming OVC Tournament begins play with a 6 p.m. game Wednesday against fifth-seeded Tennessee Tech at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium.
