April 25, 2003

Doug Taylor, a 6-foot-10-inch standout from McClure, has signed a national letter of intent to play men's basketball for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Taylor enters as a freshman next season from Shawnee High School. Taylor plans to go into SIUE's engineering program.
"He runs the floor well, displays a good court sense and can blocks shots," said SIUE Coach Marty Simmons.
Taylor was among the best in southern Illinois last season. He recently scored 12 points in an area All-Star game. He was named All-southern Illinois and All-Conference. Taylor was a two-time All-Tournament pick at the DuQuoin High School Tournament. A four-year letterwinner in basketball, Taylor also played two seasons of baseball.
Simmons said he first saw him in an AAU Tournament in Kansas City.
"I liked him from the start," Simmons said. "I think he has a good chance to be a lot better here."
