For the second time in two days, SIUE held the nation’s number one offense in check, but again it came in a losing cause. Tennessee Tech defeated the Cougars 4-1 to take the first two games of the three-game series baseball series.
After opening the season with 14 consecutive road games, SIUE baseball will play host to defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Tennessee Tech this weekend at Simmons Complex. Friday’s opener has been moved to a 4 p.m. start.
For the second game in a row, Murray State first baseman Ramsey Scott ended a game against the Cougars. Scott’s RBI-single capped off a five-run ninth inning for the Racers as Murray State defeated SIUE baseball 9-8 to win the series 2-1.
SIUE baseball dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 22 Wichita State Tuesday afternoon at Eck Stadium.The Cougars were scheduled to open the home season Wednesday, but inclement weather has forced the postponement of that game, which will be made up later in the season.
SIUE junior catcher Brock Weimer has been named to the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team, while the league head coaches and sports information personnel have tabbed SIUE baseball to finish ninth in this season’s OVC race.
