SIUE baseball will play host to Western Illinois Wednesday night after field conditions shifted the game to Edwardsville. The contest was originally planned to be played at Western Illinois in Macomb, Illinois.
Catchers shined at the plate Sunday as SIUE catcher Brock Weimer and EKU catcher Alex Holderbach each drove in five runs. EKU went on to pick up an 11-8 win and sweep the three-game Ohio Valley Conference baseball series from the Cougars.
SIUE baseball must contend with Mother Nature again this weekend. The Cougars resume Ohio Valley Conference play at Eastern Kentucky. The teams have already adjusted the series to prepare for inclement weather.
After winning its first Ohio Valley Conference series of the year this past weekend, SIUE baseball steps out of conference to take on Missouri, of the Southeastern Conference, Wednesday night in Columbia, Missouri.
SIUE junior pitcher Kenny Serwa fired eight shutout innings Saturday to lead SIUE baseball to a 4-2 win over Belmont Saturday. The win secured SIUE’s first Ohio Valley Conference series win of the year.
SIUE and Southeast Missouri combined for 16 runs in the final two innings Sunday and traded leads four times. In the end, the Redhawks outlasted the Cougars 11-10 to sweep a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.
For the second time in two days, SIUE held the nation’s number one offense in check, but again it came in a losing cause. Tennessee Tech defeated the Cougars 4-1 to take the first two games of the three-game series baseball series.
