GREENVILLE, N.C. – SIUE senior right-handed pitcher Mason McReaken has been named to the initial watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award.
The Stopper of the Year Award has been given annually since 2005 and is awarded to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.
In 2017, McReaken, a native of Centralia, Illinois, led the Cougars with 24 appearances out of the bullpen, which is second most for an SIUE pitcher in the Division I era. He led the team with six saves, which is tied for second most in a single season in SIUE's Division I era. McReaken finished 16 games total and amassed a 2-4 record with a 3.88 earned run average. He struck out 47 hitters in 46.1 innings of work.
McReaken is the only Ohio Valley Conference representative on the list.
